MACIEJ GARBOWSKI

ABOUT
The idea of the Maciej Garbowski: Lutosławski Collective was to translate Witold Lutoslawski's idea into a wider improvisation. The selection of the artists to participate in the project was meticulous. One could say that at a very early stage borrowings were made from Lutoslawski's controlled alleatory technique. Two basses, amplified cello, piano two independent solo voices and a computer make a peculiar (but certainly not random) configuration. The main emphasis is not on creating the form; however, within the vocal sphere - it is equivalent to that of the piano and cello, as well as two double basses. At times parts of texts by Tomas Tranströmer - the Swedish Nobel prizewinner in 2011 are recited in three languages at once, which is a reference to the three groups of instruments in the orchestra of strings: first and second violins and violas.
